ShopStation

Price optimization platform for independent grocery retailers

shopstation.co.uk ↗

Overview

Independent supermarkets face impossible odds competing with chains that have sophisticated pricing data and market intelligence. ShopStation levels the playing field by aggregating pricing across multiple retailers, giving consumers a price comparison tool while providing small retailers with the data intelligence they need to compete strategically.

What I Built

  • PostgreSQL database architecture handling multi-retailer pricing data
  • Dual interface: consumer-facing price comparison + business dashboard
  • User research with local retailers validating core value proposition
  • Complete design system in Figma (wireframes, user flows, interactive prototypes)

Key Learnings

The technical work was straightforward. The hard part was understanding how independent retailers actually make pricing decisions. I spent time in actual shops, watching how owners juggle inventory, competition, and customer expectations. The best features emerged from those observations—not from my initial assumptions about what they needed.

Technical Stack

  • PostgreSQL
  • Figma
  • User-centered design methodology
